101 in 1001

I have never been the kind of girl that would write lists of short and long term goals. It has never been my thing. I’m more of the spontaneous kind. I think of something, maybe give it a second thought if it is of great importance, and just go! I always thought life is just too short to have everything planned.

But life, you see, life is just funny that way because I kind of like lists now. They make me feel accomplished once I cross the items off. Who would have thought that making lists would make me, well, happy!

So here’s my list of what I hope to accomplish in the near future and I hope that soon rather than later I can start crossing things off.

UPDATE (7/6/2010): I first started this list titled “Hoping to Cross Off” in hopes to keep myself motivated and accomplish them. I decided to join the many who create the 101 in 1001 for the same reasons.

  1. Blog every day for a month.
  2. Book twenty weddings.
  3. Book twenty children shoots.
  4. Book a wedding in another country.
  5. Buy the Canon 5D Mark II.
  6. Buy two prime lenses.
  7. Frame photos for my house.
  8. Master Photoshop.
  9. Join a photography network.
  10. Attend a photography workshop.
  11. Get in shape (like with Shakira’s abs and all).
  12. Buy a house.
  13. Get another dog.
  14. Get a wedding featured in a magazine.
  15. Get a wedding featured in Style Me Pretty.
  16. Attend a workshop by David Jay.
  17. Buy my own car.
  18. Learn how to bake Dominican cake.
  19. Learn ways to improve my business.
  20. Employ a second shooter.
  21. Finish all the books on my reading list and start a new one.
  22. Become a faster reader.
  23. Become a runner.
  24. Finally learn how to play my guitar.
  25. Become a better writer (my second love).
  26. Be more kind.
  27. Pray more and believe.

There are tons more and eventually I will add to it. This list will serve as a reminder of where I am and where I want to be. Frankly, I’m very excited. I love it when life feels right.

I am also a writer of lists-usually short term tasks written on post-its (but the backs of receipts and napkins are just fine too). As for long-term goals, your #26 is an important one. Believing in my capacity to accomplish anything I set my mind to is something that has taken me a long time to cultivate. Sometimes that belief gets shaken by daily stress and setbacks. When that happens, I take a time-out to center myself, and come back to a place inside where that belief is strong and clear.

I met you about a year ago Julia, and I can definitely see the changes you have brought forth in your life and career since then. I’m sure that during the next year you will be checking off many of these items and more.
